My early teacher was the San Francisco Bay Area photographer, Gale Perry.
My favorite genre can be described as ‘conceptual’, where the images try to depict, or be a visual metaphor for, a story or a state of being.
The techniques that I like to use include: exaggeration of contrasting or sympathetic elements; using two subjects to depict opposing elements or the complexity of one; giving the subject something of a mythological status; drawing upon a literary sense (even just a play on words); placing people in relation to cityscapes (especially San Francisco’s).
Humor, the Street, and the pleasure of capturing something simply because it is photogenic, are not forgotten.
